With a handful of models all based on their iconic frame, Wing eBikes stand out with Euro minimalist styling. Boasting a top tube that looks like a Maglight, the kind of big heavy flashlight used by police and security officers, the front and rear ends of the big top tube on all Wing eBikes are capped in lights, front and rear.

Beyond the frame’s similarity to a flashlight, though, the design has a more direct influence from the eBike world. Many riders and reviewers have noted the similarity to the VanMoof frame designs from the Dutch bike company. It almost seems as if the VanMoof factory had excess capacity, and Wing swooped in to slightly modify it and slap a new brand name on, even down to the model names (X3 and S3 from Amsterdam, X and S2 from New York).

Since launching in 2017, Wing Bikes have really taken off. They now offer five models for sale on the web, mostly. Each model comes with some unique features and attributes, attuned to different rider sizes and styles. With the introduction of the Freedom X, Wing polished a couple of details on the flagship model 2 and added a few hundred bucks to the list price. The two main differences include a torque
sensor in place of the cadence sensor for improved power delivery to the pedals (it’s a minimal difference, say those who have compared the two directly), and a tech upgrade–the bike’s display is integrated into the stem rather than mounted on the handlebars.

Wing Bikes offers a couple of other specialty option models. There is the small-wheel low-slung model (but without a step-through bar), that’s made for shorter riders called the Freedom S2. For a bit rougher terrain, there’s the Freedom Fatty with the iconic 4” balloon tires that absorb some bumps and shocks. There’s no suspension, though, so it’s far from a real off-road beast.
