Wing Freedom ST Electric Bike Review and Coupon

Expert Review :

Wing’s Freedom ST Electric Bike may be the e-Bike for shorter riders that are comfortable with their previous Freedom X model. This updated Wing Freedom ST introduces a step-through, user-friendly design with many of the same features.

The top tube from the Freedom X is omitted entirely from the Freedom ST design which takes a left turn from the typical style of Wing e-bikes. This e-Bike gives riders more than just the experience of a sleek design. Freedom ST is just as speedy and lightweight as the previous models, with protection and accessibility in mind. Wing’s Freedom ST is definitely an upgrade from older Wing models.

Facts & Specs

Powered by a 36V/550W Bafang motor, the Freedom ST’s rear hub power train is centered in the rear wheel. It provides riders with 45Nm of torque, which is an output powerful enough for city travel. Like its Freedom X counterpart, this e-Bike has a torque sensor that makes the ride smoother and more manageable. Beginners and regular e-Bike riders will enjoy the extra power and reliability they receive from the motor alone.

The battery is inconspicuously integrated into the frame and detachable which makes the design simple. It has a striking resemblance to a regular bike instead of a bulkier e-Bike. In order to meet the range desires of the rider, the choice of battery is personalized. For travelers of short distances, the 8.5Ah battery is the smallest amp option that cranks out 35 miles per charge. The other battery choices are the 10.4Ah and 14Ah which allow 45 and 60 miles per charge respectively.

Each choice is 36V with the same size (15.5*3.6*3.4 inches) and they each weigh about 5 pounds. They all allow the rider 4 hours to charge for the longest ride possible and can be locked in place to avoid theft. The bigger the amperage of the battery, the better the feel of the motor’s torque.

Freedom ST provides five levels of pedal assist and a seven-speed Shimano Tourney mechanical derailleur. Once the rider pulls the brakes, the motor and pedal assist turns off. While this bike operates primarily by pedal assist, the scalable throttle helps push the bike from the max speed of 20mph to 24-25mph. The Freedom ST comes with cable 180mm stainless steel mechanical disc brakes which are adequate and indestructible.

Unlike Freedom X and Freedom 2, Wing’s Freedom ST comes with three available colors to choose from instead of two. Along with the classic silver and black, you can get this e-Bike in a new light blue color. This newer version doesn’t skip out on functionality and comfort. The frame is made of lightweight aluminum alloy 6061 which is quite sturdy. The stem, saddle post, and handlebars are all made from high-polish alloy.

The handlebars are swept back which adds to its ergonomic look and ride. They are also more closely aligned with the rider’s chest for optimal comfort. The step-through design is a favorite amongst women and less-limber riders who don’t enjoy throwing their legs over the middle post. Since this e-Bike gets rid of the center bar, it’s also lowered to meet the height range of 5’1” to 6’2”.

There are puncture-resistant Kenda or Innova tires that are 26*1.75 inches with a low center of gravity. Whichever brand of the tire it comes equipped with depends on the color of the e-Bike chosen. When the terrain gets a little testier, the puncture-resistant tires will give the rider a little more ease and control.

Wing’s Freedom ST contains the same cutting-edge updated features as the Freedom X. This includes the built-in centered LCD that can track speed and distance, show the battery and assist levels, control the loudness of the horn, and activate the lights.

Freedom ST is equipped with powerful LED lights integrated into the front and the back of the bike. The lights instill the qualities of car headlights with a white display in the front and a red display in the rear. This allows riders to enjoy their travels day or night while being able to still easily see and be seen.

Another one of Freedom ST’s tech features is its anti-theft alarm and locking system built into the frame. It utilizes movement-sensing technology that sounds an alarm at 110 decibels if the bike is moved while it’s locked. There’s a warning noise if the bike is tampered with, and if the thief continues, the ear-piercing alarm persists.

At only 39 pounds, this e-Bike is still on the lighter side of average weight compared to other e-Bikes. Starting at $1,548, the Freedom ST is only about $100 more than the previous Freedom X and still comes with a 1-year warranty on the frame, battery, and electronics.

PROS

  • Security: The ability to lock the battery in place provides an added feeling of security. The loud alarm will sound when it detects the slightest move and will get louder and more persistent as it senses the bike is being moved more.
  • Accessibility: The makers of the Freedom series seemed to have paid attention to users’ ease of access. Getting rid of the top tube meets the needs of shorter and less limber riders with a step-through design

CONS

  • Extra cost: A step-through frame is becoming the more popular and universally accepted frame configuration in e-Bike design. When you consider the step-through design is supposed to save costs for manufacturers, this minor price leap may be one to consider before you buy the Freedom ST over another one of Wing’s Freedom designs.

Final Thoughts

The Wing Freedom ST e-Bike applies mostly the same specs as the Freedom X, just with some more fun quirks and accessible features. This e-Bike is lightweight, stylish, reliable, and capable of preventing theft. Both beginner and devoted e-Bike riders will find this design useful, especially if they enjoy a lower step-through style.
